A PC Mind, an Apple iPod, & gadgets

Being interested in things that increase performance I've heard so many for years marvel at their various iPods, Blackberrys, Palms, etc.

Recently I got my wife an iPod Nano, Since then we've both spent much frustrated time trying to figure out how to make it work. So here's a suggestion to Apple. Don't hide the instructions inside of a piece of cardboard at the bottom of the box where it can't be seen. Who knew there were directions.

And who knew that it's logical to swipe a digit across the control from left to right to cause a menu to scroll up and down. Arggh!

Then there's the text messaging crowd that I don't understand. I have some small understanding in that I "ICQ" daily to one or more consultants but why people want to send text messages back and forth when they could talk to one another I don't understand.

Finally there are Palms and other devices that require a stylus to enter notes. I don't understand. I often carry a bunch of 3x5 cards  with a rubber band around them or sometimes a small 3x5 spiral notebook in my shirt pocket. Pen in hand I can take notes far faster and when I don't need them anymore it's real easy to get rid of them.

Can someone explain the love for these devices?
